Registered Nurse (RN) ICU/Telemetry (Night Shift)

# Beds 27 beds - 13 private, 14 semi-private
Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:4 tele patients; 1:5 MedSurg patients. If a mixed team of MS and Tele ratio is still 1:4
Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients Acute/Chronic Medical Conditions, Post Surgical patient population including Total Joints (must be comfortable with this population), Urology, GYN, Podiatry, General Surgery. Potential Stroke patients.
Experience or 'Must have' skills At least 2 years' experience, Cerner experience preferred.
Are RNs required to titrate drips? No
Common titratable &/or set rate drips Heparin Drips, no cardiac drips on this unit

Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? Remote telemetry (Philips is brand) (monitor tech is stationed on 4W cardiac tele unit), strips are sent to unit, MT has signed off and RNs are required to read, interpret and sign off as well
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? House supervisor in house 24/7, Nurse Manager during normal business hours, Nurse Shift Managers + Charge Nurse OR Break Nurse each shift. If no Nurse Shift Manager, will have a Charge Nurse + Break Nurse**Shift managers/CNs take teams in unexpected incidents to accommodate for patient care needs.
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios CNAs based on the census
RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) Cpap or Bipap (per RT & MD order)-No vents.
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 12Hr shifts; 7a-730p, 7p-730a
Every shift huddle at 0700 and 1900
Weekend Requirement 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
Weekends are Fri/Sat for nights & Sat/Sun for days
Holiday Requirement 1 major & 1 minor minimum
Is there Call or a Standby requirement? No Call, but can be placed on standby for low census. If placed on standby and called in they have a 30 min response time.
Floating Requirements? Travelers are 1st to float. Can be floated to Mercy Downtown (approx 6.5 miles away). Can float to any MS Tele unit. Can float to ICU for MedSurg Tele patients. Can float to ER for MedSurg Tele holds.
Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Navy blue. If you wear an undershirt under your scrub top, it must be navy, white, or black. If you wear a scrub jacket, it must also be navy. No hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets.
Unit/Department specific orientation 1-2 shifts with preceptor
