Work Schedule: Mon to Fri, 2:30pm to 11:00pm. No weekends, no holidays.

Summary

Processes surgical and autopsy specimens. Prepares microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes. Performs diagnostic testing including special stains and Immunohistochemistry. Examines slides microscopically to ensure preparation meets laboratory quality requirements.

Position Responsibilities

Embeds tissue samples in paraffin correctly identifying type of tissue as well as normal and abnormal components.

Cuts tissue in ultrathin sections, modifying technique based on tissue type.

Performs routine, special and Immunohistochemical staining procedures.

Understands basic principles of immunology as they relate to problem solving and unexpected test results.

Prepares tissue specimens as per routine and special processing, selecting protocol based on physician orders.

Correlates laboratory tests to disease processes and knows basic physiology required to recognize appropriate test selection.

Performs, reviews, and documents quality control according to established policies and procedures. Evaluates data and investigates problems.

Takes corrective action according to predefined criteria or refers issues to the appropriate manager.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required

Minimum of externship in a CLIA laboratory.

Required Education

Minimum of associate's degree in Histology, laboratory science, biological or chemical science or other relevant field.

Training/Certifications/Licensure

Valid certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or equivalent, or meets CLIA '88 educational requirements for high complexity testing.

Hourly Rate: $30.37 - $47.20 (actual salary will vary based on experience and internal equity.)
