The Registrar serves as the primary point of contact for patients, visitors, caregivers, and community members presenting to The Path Behavioral Health Center for outpatient clinic appointments, crisis stabilization services, and related behavioral health care needs. This role creates a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment while coordinating patient access functions including registration, scheduling, demographic and insurance verification, and communication with clinical teams. The Registrar supports Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Revenue Cycle Team through accurate and efficient collection of patient information while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and excellent customer service in all interactions.
Creates a positive impression for each patient, family member, visitor, or staff while performing pre-registration, registration, routing, or escorting.
Accurately gathers necessary demographic, emergency, and insurance information for pre-registration/registration on all patients.
Uses courteous and professional telephone techniques and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with patients, physicians, and hospital staff, promoting excellent customer service in every interaction.
Performs activities with knowledge of the hospital's mission, values, regulatory requirements, payer requirements, EMTALA, HIPAA privacy and security, revenue cycle procedures, and hospital policies.
Performs financial clearance processes, including eligibility, address, and insurance verification with professional service.
offers assistance without prompting and participates in performance improvement.
Escorts patients, family, caregivers, and guests as necessary and provides assistance to patients who require it.
Conducts limited cashiering duties, including receipt of patient payments, processing petty cash reimbursements, and providing change.
Communicates with referring providers, clinical departments, and/or appropriate personnel to exchange information for reimbursement of services.
Ability to work any day of the week, including holidays, to accommodate customer service needs.
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum six months of customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge of insurances and healthcare billing preferred.
Keyboarding, filing, office procedures and/or experience preferred.
De-escalation training obtained within 1 year.
Strong communication, customer service, and professional phone skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology, registration processes, and hospital procedures preferred.
Possible exposure to blood and/or body fluids/infectious disease/hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals/specimens and latex products.
