Job Description Position Title: Clinical Veterinarian - Primate Herd Health, and Biomedical Research

Are you a dynamic clinical veterinarian eager to work with non-human primates, primarily rhesus macaques, in an AAALAC-accredited, PHS-assured, and CDC-registered facility? This unique position offers housing support/corporate housing for several months to facilitate your transition.

This company started a breeding program over a year ago and have 250 breeding females and 150 infants.
They have the capacity now to apply animal models for a variety of disease indications including NASH, Diabetes, and Ocular
They are now starting NHP Pharmacology studies both PK and PD as well as animal disease model development, model applications, experimental surgeries, and transplant surgeries up to and including dosing and sampling through catheterization of the CNS/spinal cord

Collaborate with a team of six dedicated DVMs and other veterinary professionals.
Develop hands-on medicine skills, population herd health management, and contribute to enrichment strategies for the animals.
Serve as a liaison for behavioral management.
Participate in NHP Pharmacology studies, including PK and PD, animal disease model development and applications, experimental surgeries, and transplant surgeries.
Apply animal models for various disease indications, including NASH, diabetes, and ocular conditions.
Working with a breeding program with uses retired females from previous facilities instead of allowing them to be euthanized.

Provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for laboratory animals, ensuring humane veterinary support.
Conduct physical, ophthalmic, and other necessary exams on laboratory animals.
Offer expertise in animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodology to staff scientists and technicians, providing training as needed.
Assist the site supervisor in ensuring compliance with policies and practices related to animal care and welfare.
Report and resolve all animal care concerns promptly.
Participate in the business operations of import, export, and quarantine of an animal supplier.
Manage a breeding program with 250 breeding females and 150 infants, utilizing females retired from previous primate studies.
Perform procedures such as C-sections, ultrasounds, nutritional monitoring, dystocia management, and routine health exams for a large population.
Clinical experience (training provided for the right candidate).
Active DEA registration.
Willingness to work with laboratory animals in a research/laboratory setting.
Excellent communication skills, a focus on compliance, and a commitment to animal health and welfare.
Aspiration to study for the Lab Animal Medicine Boards with the facility's support.
