Job Description

The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) will support plasma center operations under the guidance of the Center Manager and the Center Physician. The role includes the application of regulatory guidance, medical and safety standards, and operational best practices within a plasma collection environment.

Responsibilities

Determine donor eligibility and obtain informed consent, including AIDS education and self‑exclusion.

Conduct medical history interviews and physical examinations.

Perform blood testing and review laboratory results such as Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).

Manage donor adverse events and evaluate donor reactions per SOP.

Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, developing standing orders with the Center Physician, and coordinating donor transport to emergency facilities.

Refer cases to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for medical or technical issues involving donor safety and eligibility.

Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.

Manage employee incidents, determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER, and refer to EHS guidance.

Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations of community pandemic threats.

Qualifications

High‑school diploma or equivalent, or a recognized nursing program that meets state licensing requirements.

Current nursing license (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of assignment.

Current CPR and AED certification.

Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.

Completion of FDA‑approved BioLife Medical Support Specialist training.

Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
