Histotechnician I - Histology Lab

The histology technician process surgical pathology specimens and body fluids for review by pathologists. In addition to routine processing, the histotechnician must be proficient in the cutting of frozen sections, special stains and immunohistochemical stains. Other requirements include the processing of send-out tests, routine maintenance on equipment, quality control and the maintenance of files and records.
Performs technical procedures proficiently in accordance with laboratory standards.
Evaluate departmental methods and equipment on a concurrent basis and recommend changes to improve.
Maintain quality control and maintenance records.
Must perform and document preventive maintenance as required by department.
Takes responsibility for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the shift without sacrificing the quality of work.
Must process quality control specimens daily or as required by department
Evaluates and documents the performance and corrective actions taken for any unacceptable results.
High School Graduate / GED required. Prefer Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
Minium one year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting required
