Emergency Department Services (Billings Clinic Hospital)

Responsible for assisting with patient care tasks in accordance with scope of practice and under the direction or supervision of the medical director. Performs patient care in the Emergency Department and ground medical transports within the defined scope of practice for specific education/certification level and as directed or supervised by the charge nurse and/or physician. Complies with applicable State of Montana rules and regulations, Emergency Department and Billings Clinic policies and procedures.

Ensures adequate supply stocking. Informs appropriate personnel of equipment needing repair and initiates work requisitions.

Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.

Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.

Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Documentation meets current standards and policies.

Manages and operates equipment safely.

Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

Hospital and transport protocols pertaining to the MedFlight transport team

Infection control and safety practices

Incorporate cultural diversity and age appropriate care into all aspects of communication and patient care; React calmly and professionally during emergent or difficult situations

Errors in relaying information or discourteous interaction could result in embarrassment and/or loss of integrity, revenue and/or market position for Billings Clinic

Scope of work encompasses communications with diverse groups of people ranging from public to other health care providers

Education 2 Year / Associate Degree AAS in Paramedic Medicine

Experience 3 years of prior experience in an applicable field within the last 5 years

Basic and Advanced airway maneuvers, including intubation, LMA, video layngoscopy, and cricothyroidotomy Medication knowledge and administration Pharmacology indications/contraindications/side effects IV Medication administration per protocol Critical care Medications including ACLS drugs, vasoactive medications IV Pump knowledge/utilization 12- Lead EKG knowledge/interpretation/communication Stroke knowledge/identification/communication Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
