Gastroenterology-Endoscopy - Registered Nurse

Job Summary: The SMH Level 3 RN Endo/GI is responsible for providing specialized nursing care in the Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal (GI) department. This role includes patient assessment, sedation administration, monitoring vital signs, assisting physicians during procedures, and post-procedure recovery. The nurse will also manage documentation, prepare and sterilize equipment, and administer medications and IV drips. Strong clinical skills in conscious sedation, telemetry monitoring, and expert IV insertion are required, along with the ability to recover patients from general anesthesia.
Responsibilities:
Answer patient questions and address their concerns.
Observe and monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures.
Administer sedation and medications as required for procedures.
Recover patients following procedures and general anesthesia.
Prepare instruments, equipment, and supplies for endoscopic procedures.
Clean and sterilize equipment prior to use.
Assist physicians throughout endoscopy and GI procedures.
Administer IV drips and perform expert IV insertions.
Complete all necessary documentation, including patient notes and discharge papers.
Perform patient intake for GI procedures.
Required Skills & Certifications:
Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum 2 years of experience in endoscopy procedures.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Telemetry monitoring and rhythm identification skills.
Conscious sedation expertise.
Expert IV insertion skills.
Experience recovering patients from general anesthesia.
Ability to perform patient intake for GI procedures.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
~ Experience with electronic medical records, preferably EPIC in GI or endoscopy specialty within the last year.

Special Considerations:
On-call coverage required for overnight and weekend shifts.
Work environment includes fast-paced endoscopy and GI procedural areas.
Scheduling:
Monday through Friday schedule, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Shift options include either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts.
On-call duties for overnight and weekend coverage.
