Direct Support Professional I (Part Time)

Overview Easterseals PORT Health is seeking a dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support children with disabilities and/or behavioral challenges in our after-school recreation program. This is a year-round, part-time position that will be based in Wilmington, NC. The successful candidate will be energetic and passionate about supporting children with disabilities and/or behavioral challenges.

Part-time Schedule Monday-Friday between 1:30pm-5:30pm

What You’ll Do as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) Under the supervision of the Recreation & Wellness Supervisor, you will provide support to children (K-8) enrolled in our After-School Recreation program.

Responsible for supporting individuals at learning and increasing skills in all areas of independence including, self-help skills, independent living skills, accessing community resources, and pursuit of leisure activities.

Participate in all program activities while ensuring safety, health, hygiene, and nutritional needs are met. This position will have additional responsibilities as Vehicle Driver of 15 passenger Van responsible for transporting children from School to our EMPOWER location Mon-Fri.

Maintain a current list of individuals who are being transported on Transportation Log and document attendance when individuals’ board and exit the vehicle ensuring no person supported is ever left alone or unattended in the vehicle.

The Vehicle Monitor is responsible for monitoring individuals supported while being transported to and from Empower Site including planned outings and fieldtrips.

What We’re Looking for in a Direct Support Professional (DSP) Minimum of 18 years of age, High School diploma or GED- Must be able to provide proof.

Two years of previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities, day care or school age recreation preferred

Must own reliable transportation for use in the program, and/or be willing to transport program participants in agency vehicles- e.g. van or mini-bus.
