Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Pediatric Neurorehabilitation

Nexus Children's Hospital Dallas is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant to help children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders and complex medical and behavioral needs improve their mobility and daily function.

Working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, you will carry out individualized treatment plans and help patients practice the movement skills they need for greater safety, participation, and independence. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that considers each patient's physical, developmental, sensory, and behavioral needs.

This role is a strong fit for a PTA who enjoys hands-on rehabilitation, communicates well with families, and can adapt care to patients with complex needs.

Deliver physical therapy interventions under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and in accordance with each patient's established treatment plan.

Help patients practice skills that improve their participation in daily activities.

Use assistive technology and adaptive equipment to support treatment goals and patient safety.

Observe and document patient response, progress, and changes in function; Adapt your approach to each patient's developmental, sensory, medical, and behavioral needs.

Educate patients and caregivers on prescribed home exercises, safe mobility strategies, and equipment use.

Complete accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record.

Participate in team discussions, quality improvement efforts, in-service training, and continuing education.

Maintain a safe, supportive environment and use hospital resources responsibly.

An associate degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Current Texas licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

At least six months of experience in an acute care hospital or rehabilitation center setting.

Experience with therapeutic exercise, mobility training, adaptive equipment, and clinical documentation.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children, adolescents, and families.

One to two years of pediatric or neurodevelopmental rehabilitation experience is preferred. Experience with patients who have behavioral challenges or complex medical needs is especially valuable. Additional physical therapy or behavioral health certifications are a plus. De-escalation training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
