Caseworker (Full Time)

The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Central District of California is accepting applications for a full-time social worker position. The social worker will be stationed in Los Angeles, Riverside, or Santa Ana, but may require travel across the district. The Office is committed to client-centered justice by aggressively advocating for the constitutional rights and dignity of indigent individuals accused or convicted of crimes.
Job Duties Social workers provide intensive clinical case management services and advocacy for clients at all stages of their criminal case. Preparing clinical needs assessments, mitigation materials/reports, biopsychosocial evaluations, and re-entry plans
Providing client‑centered support, crisis intervention, and case management assistance
Meeting with clients, including those incarcerated, and meeting with mental health experts, community treatment providers, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, local detention facilities, pretrial services, probation officers, the court, and prosecutors
Have a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and at least 2 years of post‑masters experience
Possess experience in forensic social work, mental health and addiction treatment, trauma, and social service systems (plus)
Have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively
Be able to work in‑office; telework is not available
Be able to work varying hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Selection Criteria Demonstrated commitment to forensic social work or criminal justice social justice
Salary and Benefits This is a full‑time, at‑will position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is paid by direct deposit. Benefits include health and life insurance, retirement plans, and a Thrift Savings Plan.
