Job SummaryOur client is seeking a Design Systems Architect to join a highly specialized team responsible for building and evolving an enterprise React design system used across more than 100 internal web applications. This isn't a traditional front-end development role—you won't be building customer-facing features. Instead, you'll design and develop the reusable components, frameworks, and developer tools that enable engineering teams across the organization to build applications faster, more consistently, and with accessibility built in.Success in this role isn't measured by years of React experience alone—it's demonstrated through the ability to architect innovative solutions, explain the reasoning behind technical decisions, and build systems that remain flexible and maintainable as requirements evolve.You'll work closely with designers, accessibility experts, and engineering teams to understand real-world challenges, influence the direction of the design system, and create reusable building blocks that improve the developer experience across the organization.Core ResponsibilitiesDesign, architect, and maintain a shared React component library used by more than 100 internal engineering teamsBuild reusable UI components, frameworks, and developer tooling using React and TypeScriptSolve complex engineering problems through creative thinking and innovative architectural solutionsDesign scalable, maintainable systems that anticipate future requirements rather than only solving today's problemsPartner with engineering teams to understand their challenges and identify opportunities to improve the developer experienceCollaborate with designers and accessibility specialists to ensure components are consistent, intuitive, and accessibleInfluence component APIs, architecture, and design system standards through thoughtful technical recommendationsAnalyze existing implementations across multiple frameworks to identify opportunities for standardization and improvementWrite clean, well-tested, and well-documented code that serves as the foundation for enterprise applicationsParticipate in architectural discussions and contribute to the long-term vision of the company's front-end platformContinuously evaluate new technologies and approaches that improve maintainability, flexibility, and developer productivityRequired Skills/Experience (Must-Haves)Expert-level experience with React and TypeScriptExperience designing or architecting design systems, component libraries, SDKs, frameworks, or developer platformsProven ability to architect solutions from the ground up—not simply implement requirementsDemonstrated experience solving complex technical problems through creative, out-of-the-box thinkingStrong systems thinking with the ability to explain why a solution was chosen and the tradeoffs involvedExperience building reusable tools and platforms consumed by other developersStrong front-end architecture and API design experienceExperience developing scalable, extensible, and maintainable software solutionsUnderstanding of accessibility best practices (WCAG, ARIA)Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to work independently in a highly collaborative, self-directed engineering environmentPreferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves)React design systems or enterprise component librariesReact internals (Fiber, reconciliation, hooks, rendering lifecycle, concurrent features)Design tokens and token-driven stylingAngular or other front-end frameworksOpen-source contributions, technical blogging, conference speaking, or other evidence of original engineering workExperience creating developer tools, internal platforms, or reusable frameworksWork EnvironmentLocation: We comply with local wage minimums.Medical, Dental, & Vision Insurance PlansEmployee-Owned Profit Sharing (ESOP)401K offeredAbout KellyMitchellAt KellyMitchell, our culture is world class.
