Senior Attorney (Temporary)

Position Overview

Zurich is looking for a Sr. Liability Trial Attorney to join our in‑house Staff Legal team. The role involves representing commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable commercial insurance carrier, preparing and trying high‑complexity, high‑exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.

The hybrid work model allows employees to work in their preferred location while enabling in‑person collaboration when meaningful. Candidates will work from the Orlando area, Tampa area, or central Florida, Jacksonville, and the Florida panhandle.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform all aspects of insurance defense, including:

Initial investigation, legal analysis, and advice

Preparing and filing pleadings and documents

Legal research

Pre‑trial discovery

Handling hearings and trials

Post‑trial activities as appropriate

Basic Qualifications

Juris Doctor and 7 or more years of litigation experience

Member of the bar in good standing in the jurisdiction where practice is located

Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe; knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw

Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation environment

Preferred Qualifications

Handling insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, product and premises liability, and personal injury from inception through trial

Strong organizational and analytical skills

Excellent oral and written communication

Proactive file and caseload management

Independent work and teamwork ability

First‑chair jury trial experience

Budgeting costs and calculating exposure for clients

Knowledge of billables, diary review, and substantive and procedural law

Understanding of the staff counsel function and its business role

Prior experience in an insurance defense environment

Strong negotiation, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills

PC literacy

Compensation and Benefits

Proposed salary range: $140,000.00 – $165,000.00. Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility: 15%. Bonuses and merit increases are possible.
