Senior Software Engineering - Telecommute

You will be handed whole projects, not just tasks: take a loosely defined problem, write the charter, break it into work, and get it launched cleanly. We are a small team, so you will work across our full stack, from Go services and React front ends to the AWS infrastructure they run on. Your day-to-day might include building a new EHR integration, hardening access controls and audit logging for PHI, standing up an isolated customer environment in a new region, reviewing a teammates pull request, or leading the fix during a production incident.

Health systems trust us with patient data, and you will be one of the engineers who makes that trust well placed.

Fully remote within the United States, working US business hours. Travel at least once per quarter for onsites and conferences. Design, build, test, and ship features across the Clearstep stack, primarily Go on the backend and React on the front end
Own projects end to end: write the technical charter, break work into well-scoped tasks, coordinate other engineers, and deliver on schedule
Infrastructure and DevOps
Build, operate, and improve our AWS infrastructure, including containerized services (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS), managed databases, networking, and load balancing
Stand up and maintain isolated, per-customer and in-region deployments, including outside the United States
Improve CI/CD, observability, alerting, and runbooks so problems are caught before customers notice
Serve on the on-call rotation as one of our production-access DevOps engineers, diagnose and resolve outages, and lead blameless post-incident reviews

Implement technical controls behind HIPAA and SOC 2: role-based and per-user access, identity and provisioning, encryption, key rotation, and immutable audit logging of PHI access for all any net new projects
Partner with compliance and customer-facing teams on security questionnaires, customer audits, and incident response testing
Raise risks early, including calling a stop when something is not ready to launch

Propose, evaluate, and implement new technologies and approaches, including how we use AI tools in our own engineering work
Build broad knowledge of Clearsteps business domain so you can help define the problem, not just solve it

5+ years of professional software engineering experience

• Solid expertise in at least one of our core languages, ideally Go, and working proficiency across the stack including React
• A track record of leading major projects from ambiguous requirements through launch
• Hands-on experience running production workloads on AWS with Docker and infrastructure as code
• Experience operating production systems: monitoring, debugging, incident response
• Working knowledge of application and cloud security practices, such as least-privilege access, secrets management, and audit logging
• Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working directly with product, clinical, and customer teams
• Willing to use AI tools in day-to-day engineering work
• Healthcare industry experience, especially integrating with EMRs such as Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, eClinicalWorks

Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, and multi-region or single-tenant deployments
Experience with conversational AI, LLM applications, or contact center and telephony platforms
You have shipped production changes across the backend, front end, and infrastructure, joined the on-call rotation, and taken on your first project with support from the team.

You independently own projects from charter to launch, you are a go-to person for at least one area of the platform, and you have measurably improved our security or reliability posture.
