Part-time Instructor (Pool) - Philosophy
Wake Technical Community College
Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time faculty to teach Philosophy classes. Openings for these positions may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis at various locations.
The role requires an individual to perform essential functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Responsibilities
Instruct and guide the class in an efficient and effective manner
Maintain accurate records of student work and attendance
Prepare thoroughly for each instructional hour
Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
Grade and return student work in a timely manner
Counsel students regarding their grades and progress in the course
Construct classroom materials that support the goals of the course
Design curriculum and a schedule of instruction
Use assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
Maintain communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
Remain up-to-date on technology and methods of teaching with technology
Attend professional development opportunities when possible
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with students, peers, supervisors and staff.
Working knowledge of MS Office products.
Knowledge of Blackboard, an online teaching tool is preferred.
Requirements
Master's degree in Philosophy or at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy.
Preferences
Community College teaching experience
Experience teaching "Critical Thinking" course at a post-secondary level
Experience teaching the theories and concepts of Aristotle, Kant, and Mill at a post-secondary level
Online post-secondary teaching experience
Essential Personnel TBD.
