Perioperative Nurse
Reports To: Surgical Services Manager
Overtime Status: Exempt X Nonexempt
Job Summary: The perioperative nurse plans, coordinates, delivers and evaluates nursing care to patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during surgical or other invasive procedures. The perioperative nurse plans and implements nursing care to address the physical, psychological, and spiritual responses of the patient having a surgical or invasive procedure. May also perform in the surgical technician role.
Oversee the instrument and equipment set-up for your OR, includingutilizationof preference cards and ability toanticipateyour surgeonsneeds
Facilitate effectiveand efficient transition between surgical procedures
Managepatients care and medication, includingassistancewith anesthesia
Consistently reviewcharts for completeness,in accordance withdocumentation protocols prior to and after the surgical procedure
Ensures that the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient. Works side by side with scrub nurses to helpmaintainthe sterile field in the operating room.
Prepares the patient for the procedure and handles the preparation for the operating room before the surgery takes place. Assess the patient's condition before a surgical procedure. Works with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.
Administer pre-operative medications and intravenous therapy as prescribed
Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing; current state RN or LPN License.
Minimum one year in pre-operative, intra-operativeand post-operative surgical patient care.
As needed by the Surgical Services Manager
Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
Critical thinking skills, decisivejudgmentand the ability to work with minimal supervision in afast pacedenvironment.
Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
