Research and analyze engineering requirements to develop operational concepts. Elaborate these concepts into top-level designs within the market-driven constraints of fidelity, quality, cost, and schedule. Plan, organize, lead, and participate in (1) the elaboration of top-level systems and software designs into the detailed design level and (2) the implementation of the detailed systems and software designs into the product. Test the product to these designs.
Familiarity with development of simulation models, programming in C or other high order software languages, and well-developed computer and network skills are required.
A signing bonus of up to $10,000.00 is available with this position.

- Serve as lead engineer with responsibility to direct and coordinate work of other engineering and technical staff.
- Review contract requirements, program and training system specifications, and applicable standards to identify and evaluate programmatic and technical needs.
- Analyze operational and performance requirements of the overall system and conceptualize candidate top-level software design approaches that comply with these requirements. These analyses include consideration of hardware computational capabilities, system latencies, spare time requirements, etc.
- Identify and evaluate interface requirements between software and hardware. Identify and manage program risks proactively to mitigate potential issues and control costs.
- Develop detailed software designs via analyses, elaboration, and decomposition of top-level interface, operational, and performance requirements.
- Write software code that complies with detailed design specifications using C, Fortran, and/or other high order programming languages. Utilization of the Linux Operating System.
- Perform subsystem implementation test, integration test, and acceptance test of design products to ensure quality and compliance.
- Troubleshoot software issues to diagnose and resolve problems effectively.
- Participate in installation, acceptance, and delivery of training devices to various world-wide locations.
- Coordinate with Program Management, Software, Hardware, and Manufacturing personnel as necessary to accomplish development, design, and production of the project.
- Prepare time and cost estimates for completing projects.
- End products will consist of technical reports, design specifications, integration plans, test plans, test procedures, and source code as required for the subject project.
- Plan and prepare technical and cost proposal content for new business development efforts.
- Travel
Approximately 25% travel is expected for the position. Travel occurs throughout the United States and occasionally internationally. Travel is typically overnight and often includes weekends.
This may include visits to customer sites for system acceptance testing and user training, with travel durations ranging from a few days to several weeks. Flexibility in working hours during travel is essential to meet project and customer needs.
A valid passport, along with the ability to comply with any necessary visa requirements, may be required.
A standard 40-hour workweek, Monday to Friday, is expected for the position. Flexibility and responsibility to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines and client requirements. Position occasionally requires work on holidays, weekends, and shifts.
Technical supervision. No administrative supervision responsibilities. Key responsibilities that contribute to team development and project success include:
- Peer reviewing technical work of team members and providing constructive feedback to ensure adherence to design specifications and project requirements.
- Assisting in the onboarding and training of new team members, ensuring they are well-versed in project methodologies and technical standards.
- Supporting project leads in monitoring team performance and progress, offering insights and recommendations to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Acting as a liaison between engineering teams and other departments, promoting alignment on project goals and timelines.
Bachelor of Science (B.degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent; Background must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the sciences underlying software engineering.
DoD security clearance.
Language Skills
Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in English. Ability to correspond professionally, effectively, and efficiently with coworkers, subcontractors, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community in person and in a virtual team environment.
Ability to effectively present technical information to colleagues, management, and customers. Ability to develop technical documentation such as software design documents, interface documents, test procedures, and user manuals.
Computer Skills
Solid Technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications are essential. Experienced and proficient in the use of standard personal computer software tools, including word processors, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, Virtual meetings, team collaboration software, project tracking, and databases.
Ability to develop and debug computer source code and application software written in various languages such as C/C++/C#, Python, Fortran, and Ada. Ability to quickly learn new programming languages. Ability to use software and data configuration management tools such as GIT and Subversion. Usage of Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Systems. Solid understanding of computer networking concepts. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Experience with software application development environments is required.
Proficient in planning, coordinating, and booking travel airfare, hotel accommodations, and rental cars.
Ability to identify and define problems, gather and analyze relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid, logical conclusions.
