Warehouse - Yard Jockey - Nights

Job Summary:

The Yard Jockey is responsible for efficiently and safely moving trailers within the yard to facilitate the timely loading and unloading of freight. This role ensures proper trailer placement, supports inbound/outbound operations, and maintains equipment safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate yard tractors to move trailers to and from dock doors, staging areas, and yard locations.

Inspect trailers before and after movement to ensure roadworthiness (e.g., checking for damage, verifying seals, lights, brakes).

Communicate with warehouse staff, dispatchers, and gate personnel to coordinate trailer movements.

Maintain accurate records of trailer locations and movements using yard management systems (YMS) or manual logs.

Ensure all movements are completed in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.

Assist with securing loads, chocking wheels, and inspecting equipment as needed.

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and DOT regulations.

Perform routine yard inspections and notify maintenance staff of any issues.

Operate other equipment (e.g., forklifts) as required, depending on certifications.

Requirements:

Valid driver’s license; CDL-A preferred but not always required.

Minimum [X] years of experience operating yard tractors or similar equipment.

Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in tight spaces.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Knowledge of DOT and OSHA safety regulations.

Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
