Post Doc Research Fellow - Neuroscience - Full Time

The Danzer laboratory at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to conduct phenotype‑genotype studies using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to characterize patient mutations for children with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). This basic science/translational research project offers the opportunity to improve care for children with TSC, a disease that frequently leads to epilepsy and autism.

The lab focuses on elucidating mechanisms of epileptogenesis in mTORopathies, using a wide variety of model systems and experimental approaches such as EEG, multi‑unit recording, optogenetics, chemogenetics, AAV and transgenic manipulations, calcium imaging, confocal and light‑sheet microscopy, and electrophysiology. Responsibilities

Develop skills and knowledge—critical thinking, data analysis, experimental design, and long‑term project planning—to become an independent scientist.

Design, execute, and record laboratory experiments, and analyze data that may influence patient‑care decisions.

Research and refine current methods, evaluate innovative techniques, ensure protocol accuracy through regular quality and reproducibility checks, and troubleshoot equipment issues.

Discuss experimental results with faculty and provide recommendations and analysis.

Present research at laboratory meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and external meetings; develop skills to critically review presented data.

Draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts, and grant applications.

Mentor research staff and assist with fiscal administration as responsibilities progress.

Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars; engage in intellectual discussions with the PI, other faculty, trainees, and research staff; seek feedback on career trajectory.

Attend required Cincinnati Children’s training sessions and ensure regulatory compliance with institutional policies and procedures (e.g., Infection Control, ORCRA).

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

PhD/MD or equivalent in Neuroscience or a closely related field.

At least two years of experience conducting human iPSC work.

Primary Location: Cincinnati, Ohio. Full‑time, Day shift. Regular employee status, 40 weekly hours.
