Performs human resources activities in the areas of recruitment, retention, benefits, and troubleshooting payroll issues. The School of Molecular Sciences is seeking a Department HR Specialist who will assist and perform work of considerable responsibility under the guidance and supervision of the HR Assistant Director. The successful candidate will assist with the human resource functions and be skilled in handling confidential and sensitive information, and work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities and short deadlines.
Hybrid work or alternative work schedule may be considered after hire and training.
Manage the recruitment and hiring process for all student workers hires, serving as the primary contact for hiring and managing the hourly student grader employee base to monitor hours worked, confirm active student enrollment status, monitor out-of-state remote student workers, etc.
Manage the hiring and managing Graduate RA/TA appointments which requires developing and maintaining a close and positive working relationship with the staff Manager of Graduate Academic Advising and the faculty Associate Director of Graduate Studies.
Assist with processing Visas (J1 and H1B). Track and monitor time reporting for professional staff and student workers to ensure timely and accurate entry and approvals in Workday.
Performs routine payroll redistributions (PAA), working closely with the Business and/or Research Operations team
Assist with payroll reconciliations and internal and external audit requests
Assist with any other special projects, reports, and duties as assigned by the HR Director to ensure continually efficient operations of the School to meet customer service needs.
Experience working with Workday
Demonstrate knowledge of international visa requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge of quality customer service standards, methods and practices.
Experience using Microsoft Office applications and Adobe products to create spreadsheets, forms and letters
Strong written and verbal communication skills using various communication mediums such as email,phone, Slack, Teams, and Zoom.
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%).
Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and etc.)
