Weekend Morning Host / Cashier

Location: East Neighborhood Dining Halls Akers/Holmes

Pay: $14.73 (Note: Due to the minimum wage increase at MSU , the starting rate for this position will be $16 effective 8/9/26. Those hired prior to 8/9/26 will be brought to the new minimum.)

As a Host, you will be responsible for handling credit/debit card transactions for dining hall sales. You will also be responsible for checking student ID’s and assisting customers with any related questions. It is your job to provide outstanding customer service and ensure that guests are greeted in a friendly manner.

Typical Duties

Handling minor credit card transactions

Assisting customers with questions and related issues

Responding to customer issues

Communicating with supervisors and managers to assist with customer issues

Working flexibly to meet operational needs (including possible reassignment to the dining room or serving venues)

Required Qualifications

Enrolled at Michigan State University (during academic year)

Available to work nights, mornings, and weekends

Availability to work 10 or more hours weekly

Commitment to outstanding customer service

Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision

Positive and respectful attitude, especially when working with a diverse population

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for long periods of time

Work Hours

Must be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings (possible start 6:00AM), nights (until 10 PM), and weekends

Scheduled for weekend shifts on an alternating weekend basis

During the school year domestic student employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week, and international student employees may not work more than 20 hours per work week

During school breaks, between semesters, and during Summer semester, all student employees are permitted to work up to 40 hours per work week when dining halls are open and if work is available.
