Construction Carpenters Needed - FULL TIME

Merit Construction, Inc. is an award-winning Knoxville based General Construction firm with more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full‑time opening for a Commercial Carpenter.

The position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: A Carpenter with skills and knowledge in commercial construction practices.

Responsibilities

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Installation of door frames, doors, and door hardware.

Installation of miscellaneous specialty items.

Installation of blocking and other wood framing commonly used in commercial construction.

Form and place concrete footings, piers, walls, columns, slabs, and sidewalks.

Read blueprints, use appropriate math skills, and perform layout.

Crane signaling and rigging.

Effectively communicate and understand both verbal and written instructions.

Ability to organize, sequence, and perform assigned tasks within a schedule.

Maintain positive working relationships with all other employees.

Produce high quality work.

Follow all safety requirements established by the company.

Properly trained and certified to operate skid steer loaders, mini-excavators, telescoping forklifts, and other medium sized equipment.

Physical Requirements

Stand for long periods of time on all ground conditions.

Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Walk for long periods of time.

Bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.

Climb ladders and stairs repetitively.

Lift, push, pull, or carry less than 50 lbs.

Able to work overhead.

Work in inclement weather conditions and/or air dust and debris.

Certificates and Training

OSHA 10‑hour certification (kept current).

All safety level competency for regulation 1926.

Crisis Communication Training (Merit Training).

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Trade school or apprenticeship program is a plus.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Must provide own hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, tool belt, tape measure, chalk box, levels, squares, prybar, pliers, channel lock pliers, utility knife).
