The Hospitalist Physician provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to adult patients admitted to the hospital. This role focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions, coordination of care across disciplines, and safe transitions through discharge. The hospitalist serves as the primary attending physician for hospitalized patients.

Key responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and managing adult inpatients with a wide range of medical conditions; performing admission histories and physical examinations; developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans; providing daily patient rounds and ongoing clinical assessments; ordering, interpreting, and documenting diagnostic tests and results; collaborating with consulting specialists, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary services; communicating effectively with patients, families, and caregivers regarding care plans and progress; coordinating discharge planning, including medication reconciliation and follow-up care; responding to clinical changes, emergencies, and rapid response situations as required; maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in the electronic health record; and participating in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety efforts.

The schedule and coverage include an inpatient hospital setting, day, night, or rotating shifts depending on staffing model, and weekend and holiday coverage may be required.

Qualifications include an MD or DO from an accredited medical school, completion of an accredited Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency, board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state, DEA registration or eligibility, and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain).

The work environment includes an acute care hospital setting, collaborative, multidisciplinary care model, and exposure to a diverse inpatient population.
