Full-Time Temporary HR Generalist

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team, supporting operations in Chicago, IL, or Atlanta, GA. This role is ideal for a seasoned HR professional with a strong background in a complex, high-volume, unionized transportation or bus line environment. The HR Generalist will serve as a strategic partner and day-to-day resource for employees and management, administering a broad range of HR functions including employee relations, labor relations, compliance, and people operations. About the Role Employee Relations (ER) - Serves as the primary point of contact and driver for employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, manager enablement and coaching, etc.
Compliance - Ensures organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws
Compensation Management - Support the administration of the company’s compensation programs, including job evaluations, salary benchmarking, job descriptions and classifications, annual merit review process, union pay scales, etc.
Performance Management - Administer end-to-end performance management cycles, including goal-setting, mid-year check-ins and annual evaluations, progressive disciplinary processes, etc.
Leave Administration - Manage and serve as point of contact for all employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term and long-term disability, personal leave, etc.
Unemployment Compensation - Manage unemployment insurance claims and timely state agency responses
People Operations - Maintain accuracy and integrity of employee data in the HRIS, including employment changes, promotions, status changes, etc.
Onboarding - Manage pre-employment activities and full onboarding experience, including background checks, I9 verifications, new hire orientations, etc.
About You Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with demonstrated proficiency across the functional areas listed above
Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrable experience identifying opportunities for improving HR processes, systems, and overall employee experience
Prior experience in intercity bus transportation, passenger rail, transit authority, or comparable high-volume, multi-location transportation operations
This position requires full-time, M-F in-office presence in either Chicago, IL, or Atlanta, GA, as well as availability to travel to operational locations as needed
Experience supporting multiple sites or geographically dispersed employee populations
