Physician Assistant - Hospitalist

Reports to a Director for administrative supervision and the Practice Site Physician or designee for clinical supervision. Is responsible for the coordination and delivery of primary care, as specified by the appropriate certifying agency, to BMG patients at designated work sites. Provides clinical and administrative assistance to BMG programs, etc. Works collaboratively in the education of nursing students, medical residents, and other pre-professionals.

We deliver outstanding care, inspire health, and connect with heart. • Coordinates and delivers primary and nursing care in collaboration with the Practice Site Physician by: Working within the approved scope of practice as designated for this type of professional. Obtaining complete medical history and physical data on patients. Interpreting and integrating data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed. Collaborating with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Synthesizing data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention. Administering medications and injections according to physician direction. Interviewing and advising patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommending community resources to meet patient and family needs. Triaging patient telephone calls and providing consultation. Coordinating or when appropriate managing medical and surgical emergencies. Providing monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

Provides clinical and administrative assistance to BMG programs, e.g., Participating in health education. Maintaining related records and statistical data and preparing statistical reports as needed. Participating in interdisciplinary care conferences and assisting with referrals and dissemination of information to appropriate vendors. Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by: Developing and maintaining affiliation with professional and community organizations. Assisting in development and compliance of clinical protocols, policies and procedures. Participating in quality review and improvement programs; monitoring quality and outcomes of care rendered. Communicating with physician(s) to ensure the quality and timeliness for services rendered to patients. Performing other job related assignments and special project as directed.

Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. Embrace performance improvement.
