Park Attendant

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or successful completion of GED, no prior experience is required, must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional requirements include shift work to include evenings, weekends, and holidays, effective communication with internal and external customers, and the incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.

Examples of work include enforcing rules and regulations of recreational facilities and campgrounds to maintain discipline and ensure safety, overseeing the daily operations of recreational facilities, administering first aid according to prescribed procedures and notifying emergency medical personnel when necessary, organizing, leading, and promoting interest in recreational activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies, greeting new arrivals to activities introducing them to other participants, explaining facility rules, and encouraging participation; maintaining records and collecting fees as necessary, monitoring cleanliness of parks, shelters, and facilities; removing all trash, checking and cleaning restrooms, demonstrating regular and punctual attendance, and performing other duties as assigned.
