Histotechnician I - Histology Lab

The primary purpose of the Histotechnologist position is to provide pathologists and physicians with accurate and reliable evaluations of Surgical Pathology tissue samples.
actively contributes to creating a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for UH customers; responds to complaints and concerns by resolving issues immediately whenever possible; organizes work process to accommodate customer needs; meets or exceeds customer expectations for service; works effectively with team to ensure customer service scores meet/exceed targets; Processes all specimens using the Automated Tissue Processors, embeds processed tissue samples, cuts, mounts, stains, and labels slides, matches to corresponding requisition form and histology specimen logs, and performs special stains and immunostain.
Cuts and stains frozen sections as necessary and maintains daily and monthly slide, paraffin block, and stain totals and QC reports.
Stores and files all paraffin blocks and microscopic slides and maintains equipment and quality control; participates in Quality Assurance Programs and Regulatory readiness for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Inspection.
Maintains inventory and reports supplies needed for ordering to the Chief Technologist and is responsible for proper disposal of chemical, sharps, and specimen waste as per University Hospital's Waste Management policies and procedures.
keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and University Hospital regulations, laws, and policies; Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field. (Preference given to applicants with two (2) or three (3) years of prior experience in Histology.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is $34.39 - $49.11.
