Position Highlights
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist supports all phases of the recruitment process. This role serves as a primary point of contact for applicants and hiring committees, providing guidance on job postings, application procedures, hiring guidelines, and HR policies. The position coordinates recruitment activities including advertising approved vacancies, reviewing applications for minimum qualifications, and supporting hiring committees with committee composition, screening tools, interview documents, and established timelines. The position may also attend job fairs (local and out-of-town) and prepare promotional recruitment materials. The role emphasizes accuracy, regulatory compliance, and a professional candidate experience. Additional responsibilities include HRIS record maintenance, reporting, performing LiveScan fingerprinting, and related administrative support.
Work Schedule: The position is based in the Human Resources Office on the Main College Campus with a work schedule of Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Over the summer the work schedule changes to Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with Fridays off.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or the equivalent
Graduation from High School or the equivalent
One (1) year of experience working in Human Resources directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this class.
Education equivalency: Associate’s Degree equals two years of increasingly responsible work experience for each full year (24‑30 units) of college. High School equivalency equals an adult education diploma or four (4) years of full‑time, paid work experience.

Required Upon Hire
Transcripts of academic work are not a required attachment with the application but may be required upon hire. Offers of employment are contingent upon the submission of official transcripts showing completion of the degree, and proof of other requirements of the position, that minimally qualify the applicant. If the position has an education equivalency component within the minimum qualifications and the applicant qualified under equivalency, transcripts may not be required upon hire. Foreign transcripts must include a U.S. evaluation and translation.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre‑employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
Education Code § 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that they are free of active tuberculosis.
As a condition of employment, the District requires that you provide fingerprints prior to beginning work. Fingerprinting can be done at Butte College Human Resources by appointment, or at another agency. If fingerprinted at another agency, the rolling fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility at the time of printing.
