Position Summary

Current Opening: 3 Full-time positions; 12- and 24-hour shifts.

Sign-on Bonus – $7,000 with 3-year commitment.

Assess a patient’s conditions and provide initial treatment to the level of their scope of practice. Assisting healthcare professionals by monitoring vital signs, providing care, and performing skills to their scope of practice. Relaying important medical information about patients to medical staff in the pre-hospital setting and upon arrival to Emergency Department. Charting of the assessments and treatments in the appropriate patient care records. Is responsible for adhering to standards of ethics recognized by the Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Essential Functions

Is knowledgeable of and works within all pertinent, established Powell Valley Healthcare and PVHC Emergency Medical Services Policies, Procedures, and Protocols.

Always act in a professional manner and shall be able to handle conflict situations with good judgement.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responds to instructions from the Crew Leader, EMS Manager, ED/EMS Director, and Medical Director, and drives specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified location.

Administers treatment at site of emergency, in specially equipped vehicle, or as needed as a member of PVHC patient care teams within the hospital within their scope of practice.

Documents assessments and care of patients on the Emergency Medical Services medical record. This includes ass associated reports and run logs.

Responsible for the daily operation, inspection, restocking and daily rig checks and monthly outdates.

Responds in a timely manner to emergencies when on duty or on call.

Treats patients, public, and other healthcare providers and public safety personnel with respect and dignity.

Attends and participates in at least seventy-five percent of the department’s monthly staff meetings on an annual basis.

Maintains competency on all equipment within scope of practice.

Maintain a professional appearance of the approved uniform and dress code in accordance with the PVHC EMS Uniform policy.

Assist students and observers with EMS operations.

Answers phone calls, operates communications radio, monitors various gauges and monitoring devices.

Triaging patients in varying degrees of distress and keeping the Emergency department RN informed on the status of patients in overflow situations.

Rooming patients in the Emergency Department.

Rounding and assessing patient and family needs in the Emergency Department and the waiting room.

Assist the RN in the care of the patient using the delegation model.

Assist the RN with patient call-backs.

Mentor new EMT’s and Paramedics.

Assists in maintaining and stocking medical supplies and equipment.

Under the direction of the Emergency Department Medical Director or designee, assists personnel in emergency treatment administered in the Emergency Department within their scope of practice.

Provides problem solving for situations that require immediate solutions that effect the department’s operation, which may include but is not limited to, staffing on an emergency basis.

Documents assessments and care of patients in the electronic health record.

Assists in starting IV’s, take vital signs, help turn or move patients as needed within the Emergency Department and in other areas of the organization.

Administer medications and assists in procedures within their scope.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Education And Experience Required

Current Wyoming EMT-Paramedic license required.

BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and PHTLS Health care Provider within three months of hire.

Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.

Must meet current facility age requirement to drive specially equipped emergency vehicle to specific location.

Current Wyoming Drivers License.

Physical Demands/Requirements

Frequently lifting of objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds

Extensive heavy lifting, pushing or pulling objects over 75 pounds, assistance or assistive devices will be used.

Use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.

Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.

The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
