Salary: $28.37–$34.74 per hour (plus $10,000 sign‑on bonus and $60 biweekly hazardous duty pay).

Perform work as a Corrections Officer according to established rules, regulations, post orders, and instructions. Maintain professional integrity, create a supportive correctional environment, and work as an armed post.

Each additional year of approved formal education may substitute for one year of required work experience, and each additional year of approved work experience may substitute for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Six months as a Corrections Officer or equivalent in law enforcement, police work, or the military.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

At least 18 years old.

Proficiency with firearms; must pass annual weapons qualifications.

Complete training at the Corrections Academy and obtain certification by the Police Standards and Training Council during probation.

Pass a comprehensive medical examination.

Trainee Option: candidates with a high school diploma and no prior experience may be hired in trainee status.

Preferred qualifications: None.

After‑hire requirements: meet criteria outlined in Police Standards and Training Council rules.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain security in buildings, towers, and posts of an adult correctional facility, intervene during emergencies or altercations, and gain physical control of offenders.

Supervise, escort, and transport offenders inside and outside the facility, conduct periodic counts, and search offenders and living quarters for contraband.

Supervise housing units, conduct health and safety hazard inspections, and perform random and specific searches of residents and visitors.

Conduct interviews and obtain statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and other involved parties during incidents.

Prepare tracking reports and documentation for disciplinary procedures.

Discuss issues with offenders, refer severe concerns to superiors, and promote rehabilitation through effective communication, mentoring, and deescalation techniques.

Detain offenders, forcibly if necessary, using restraints and subduing resisting offenders with approved maneuvers.
