Registered Nurse RN PCU Clinic

Registered Nurse in Stepdown Unit

This position is for a registered nurse in a stepdown unit. The nurse will care for patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, and DKA. Patient ratios will be RN: 1:3. The nurse must be proficient in management of central venous lines, Foley catheter management, tube feeding via NGT or PEG, arterial lines, and diabetes management. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who will take a patient assignment. There is no phlebotomy on the unit. A resource nurse is available, staffing dependent. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, along with hospitalist services. The charting system used is an electronic medical record system. Floating to other units may occur, including Medsurg with a ratio of 1:5-6. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other weekend. Mandatory shifts will be 4 days one week and 3 days the next. Holidays require working 2 out of 3 major holidays. Professionalism is mandatory, which includes no cell phone usage in patient care areas, no earbuds, and no eating at the desk.
