Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Machining & Process Engineering5th Axis is growing, and we are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support our advanced CNC machining and manufacturing operations in San Diego.5th Axis is a leader in automated manufacturing, CNC machining, and workholding technology. We provide turnkey manufacturing solutions spanning product development, milling, turning, assembly, plating, finishing, automation, and logistics.This is a hands-on manufacturing engineering role for someone who understands CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, manufacturing processes, ERP/MRP systems, and the realities of supporting a production machine shop.If you are a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys solving production problems, improving processes, and working directly with programmers, machinists, planners, quality, and purchasing, we want to hear from you.What You'll DoAs a Manufacturing Engineer, you will help develop, improve, and control manufacturing processes from planning through production. You will work closely with Manufacturing, CNC Programming, Planning, Scheduling, Quality, and Purchasing to keep jobs moving efficiently through the shop.Design new and improve existing manufacturing processes, methods, tooling, fixturing, automation, and work instructionsReview engineering drawings and technical documentation and develop Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and Methods of ManufacturingPlan and establish manufacturing routes for components and assemblies through CNC machining and related operationsCreate and maintain manufacturing information within the ERP/MRP systemCoordinate with CNC Programming to ensure programs and manufacturing processes are optimized for productionCoordinate tooling and material readiness with Programming, Planning, Purchasing, and ProductionSchedule and expedite jobs through manufacturing processes to meet production requirementsIdentify and resolve manufacturing bottlenecks, quality issues, and production constraintsSupport the disposition and resolution of nonconforming materialDevelop and coordinate outside processing suppliers in partnership with Purchasing and QualityPrepare manufacturing documentation, including SPC sheets, in-process drawings, work instructions, and process documentationApply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other continuous-improvement methodologiesLead projects focused on reducing lead times and manufacturing costs while improving process control, quality, and yieldApply statistical methods and manufacturing data to establish production standards and improve manufacturing performanceProvide hands-on engineering support to the shop floor and help resolve day-to-day production issuesWhat We're Looking For Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, OR 7+ years of relevant manufacturing experience5+ years of manufacturing experience in a production environmentStrong working knowledge of CNC machining and machine shop operationsDemonstrated knowledge of CNC manufacturing processes, including machining, part programming, tooling, and fixturingExperience developing or improving manufacturing processes, routings, work instructions, and production methodsExperience with CAD software such as SolidWorksExperience working with ERP/MRP systemsWorking knowledge of quality control methods, inspection requirements, and nonconformance resolutionProficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelStrong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to work cross-functionally and directly with the shop floor to resolve manufacturing and production issuesPreferred QualificationsExperience in a precision CNC machining, aerospace, defense, medical device, or advanced manufacturing environmentExperience with Epicor ERPExperience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar continuous-improvement methodologiesKnowledge of machining materials, cutting tools, plating, finishing, and outside processingExperience with production planning, scheduling, BOMs, routings, and manufacturing documentationExperience supporting high-mix, precision manufacturing operationsWhy Join 5th Axis?At 5th Axis, Manufacturing Engineers aren't separated from production—they play a direct role in how we build, improve, and scale our manufacturing operations.We offer:100% employer-paid employee medical and dental premiums401(k) with up to 4% company matchCompany-sponsored life and disability insurancePaid holidaysGenerous Paid Time OffTraining and professional developmentOpportunities for advancementA hands-on, fast-moving advanced manufacturing environmentTeam events and employee engagement activitiesMore than 90% of our managers have been promoted from within.
