The Energy & Power Division writes a broad portfolio of upstream, midstream, downstream, renewable energy and power risks on a global basis. Our current team has 28 employees across four office locations in London, Texas, the UAE and Singapore and our commitment to technical underwriting supports our decision making alongside experienced engineering expertise. Markel’s customers are the most valuable stakeholders in the value chain and we work closely with our claims team to deliver the best possible experience. A great emphasis is placed on long term partnerships with both brokers and assureds and we travel extensively to build and maintain distribution networks and client relationships across the Globe. We pride ourselves on a collaborative team mentality and have a strong support structure in place to help all associates achieve their goals. We are an established leader in our selected segments and target leadership across our full offering. We write business on both Syndicate 3000 paper at Lloyd’s and through Markel International Insurance Company Limited, and on Evanston Insurance Company paper on a non-admitted/surplus lines basis in the US.Work with the Head of 1st Party Energy in the US and our energy colleagues to underwrite onshore energy risks in the North American market in order to build a long-term profitable business.Working alongside our existing Mid & Downstream product leaders to underwrite and manage a portfolio of onshore energy and associated downstream property. Demonstrate sound underwriting judgement whilst continuously scrutinizing performance against plan and adjust approach as requiredDevelop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders internally and with broker counterparts externallyConduct thorough and regular whole-account assessments and make informed underwriting decisions steering the portfolio towards constant profitability.Monitor aggregates, including catastrophe management, within corporate thresholds and maximum capacities whilst technically rating premium data on the company systems.Prioritize customer experience with best-in-class response times to all stakeholdersEnsure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.Help recruit, develop, mentor and provide performance feedback to direct reports.Be active in marketing onshore energy products, including domestic travel and any international as requiredAct as a conduit to the International team for input from Brokers, Underwriters and external marketing teams to develop compelling growth propositionsEnsure all new and existing products comply with both legal and regulatory requirementsWhat we’re looking for:4+ years of relevant industry experience, including education or technical trainingFoundational knowledge of property and business interruption underwriting conceptsExposure to or interest in energy and/or property risks (petrochemical, manufacturing, midstream/downstream), or a background in chemical, industrial, manufacturing, or energy environments (academic or professional)Ability to apply technical knowledge to basic risk assessment and underwriting decisionsStrong communication skills with experience collaborating across teamsInterest in developing expertise in complex property and energy risks across diverse client segments#LI-Hybrid#LI-SYUS Work AuthorizationUS Work Authorization required.
