Hourly Cashier

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, a leading organic grocery retailer in the Midwest, is hiring a Cashier. The Cashier is responsible for the efficient expedition of customer sales transactions at the front registers. This position requires maintaining control of cash, ensuring customer satisfaction, and safeguarding company assets while assisting customers and maintaining a friendly, energetic demeanor.

Responsibilities Walk the store prior to each shift to ensure awareness of promotional and sale items; perform produce walk and weekly testing.

Compute bill, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due.

Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, gift cards, or automatic debits.

Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks or change due to customers.

Operate cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, enter PLU or UPC manually, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen.

Greet customers entering store and respond promptly to customer needs.

Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and ensure no personnel items are in the area.

Issue coupons and rain checks.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalency degree.

Preferred 1–2 years grocery retail experience in Front End department processes and procedures.

Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Maintain highest level of customer service at all times.

Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.

Demonstrate ability to use a point of sale system (POS).

Compensation Hourly rate: $14.50 - $16.00, with raises in accordance with the Fresh Thyme Market plan policy.
