Research Geographer

Position Overview Join AZAD Technology Partners as a Geographer and provide advanced professional GIS services utilizing computerized data capture, storage, and analysis techniques for visual displays, spatial analysis, and tabular reports on a wide variety of geographical projects. The position also develops and maintains relational databases for thousands of archaeological, historic, and traditional cultural sites affected by the facility’s actions. This is a 2‑year plus consultant position with a high probability of long‑term employment. The role is hybrid, based in Portland, OR, with on‑site work 4 days per week. Hourly pay ranges from $45.00 to $53.00 depending on qualifications.

Responsibilities Provide professional GIS services, including computerized data capture, storage, and spatial analysis.

Develop, maintain, and modify geo‑processing models and scripts.

Design and maintain geographic and relational databases.

Lead or train technicians and staff in GIS analytical procedures.

Lead research and development of automated geospatial analytical approaches.

Work with GPS technology for data collection, post‑processing, integration with ArcGIS, and troubleshooting.

Diagnose and resolve spatial data discrepancies, such as correcting datums, coordinate systems, and projections.

Qualifications Minimum 7years of experience with an applicable Bachelor’s degree, 8years with an applicable Associate’s degree, or 10years without a degree.

Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Natural Resources, Landscape Architecture, or Environmental/Urban/Regional Planning with a strong emphasis on computer‑assisted spatial analysis (preferred).

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Proficiency with GIS mapping and analytics software, preferably ESRI products (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, Spatial Analyst, Editor).

Experience with ArcGIS app development (StoryMaps, ArcGIS API for Python, etc.) and field data collection (FieldMaps, QuickCapture, Survey123, Collector).

Knowledge and experience with spatial data standards and QA/QC methodology.

Solid GIS data editing skills.

Experience working with sensitive cultural resource site data in GIS.

Valid driver’s license or RealId required.

Preferred Skills GISP (Geographic Information Systems Professional) certification.

Knowledge and experience building MS Access databases.

Basic knowledge of image processing, remote sensing, and LiDAR.

Intermediate knowledge of SharePoint.

Working knowledge of Python or similar scripting language.

Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Perl, or other scripting languages for custom web mapping applications.
