Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, FirstEnergy includes one of the nation's largest investor-owned electric systems, more than 24,000 miles of transmission lines that connect the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, and a regulated generating fleet with a total capacity of more than 3,500 megawatts.About the OpportunityThis is for two (2) open positions with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.The engineer performs analysis and recommends solutions to maintain a reliable electrical infrastructure that meets present and future electrical needs.The position can be located onsite at the Erie Office in Erie, PA, the Warren District Office in Warren, PA, or the Oil City Service Center in Oil City, PA. Candidates must reside or be willing to relocate to northwestern Pennsylvania for further consideration.Assessing and improving the electrical distribution system's reliability performance for all Pennsylvania Operating Areas.Developing and maintaining strategic plans to achieve reliability performance targets and metrics including a long-range vision for system improvement and modernization.Supporting PA Operations through data analysis including outage projects, circuit lockouts, frequent device interruptions (DEMI), customers experiencing multiple interruptions (CEMI), and worst performing circuits (WPC).Preparing and presenting reliability performance and regulatory required reports.Preparing budget estimates and schedules for distribution system reliability projects.Supporting customer inquiry responses and power quality studies as needed.Monitoring field inoperable equipment logs for remediation needs.Maintaining familiarity with state regulatory requirements for distribution inspection and maintenance.Developing and providing technical information to support the Distribution Control Center to ensure safe and efficient operation of the electrical system.May be assigned special projects as business needs require.QualificationsBachelor of Science degree in Engineering / Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.Minimum 0 - 5 years' engineering experience is required.Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam considered a plus.Experience and knowledge of electrical systems, operations, and maintenance practices, switching and tagging, computer systems, work management and electrical controls are desired.
