Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA/APP) - Malignant Hematology
UVA Health is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Malignant Hematology ambulatory Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a highly collaborative, academic environment within the UVA School of Medicine's Division of Hematology-Oncology/Medical Oncology and UVA Health's Center for Advanced Practice, caring for patients with complex acute and chronic hematologic malignancies. Following a structured four-month onboarding program, the APP will build toward eight independent clinic sessions per week (32 clinical hours) in a practice model that emphasizes autonomy with strong physician support. Clinical responsibilities include comprehensive patient evaluation, development and management of individualized treatment plans, monitoring and management of therapy-related toxicities, care coordination, and patient and caregiver education. Ambulatory-based schedule with Monday-Friday daytime hours

This role is ideal for an APP seeking a balance of clinical independence, academic engagement, and team-based support in a fast-paced oncology setting. Application materials: Prior clinical experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in hematology, oncology, or malignant hematology, preferably in an academic or ambulatory specialty setting
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members
Experience working within a multidisciplinary care model
Familiarity with Epic (EPIC) electronic medical record preferred
Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous professional development, and quality improvement initiatives
Interest in academic medicine, including participation in education, research, or process improvement activities
Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. Participate in a structured four-month onboarding process with progressive independence
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the Epic EMR in compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements
Coordinate care logistics, including scheduling of tests, procedures, and referrals
Assist with APP coverage within the malignant hematology ambulatory team
Adhere to infection control protocols when caring for immunocompromised patients
Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with acute and chronic hematologic malignancies
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research protocols as appropriate
Manage eight independent ambulatory clinic sessions (4 hours per session)
Perform and document comprehensive histories and physical exams
Prescribe and manage pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, adjusting plans based on patient response
Monitor and manage side effects and complications of chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapies
Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and leadership
Professionally lead and support other members of the care team in a dynamic clinical environment
Contribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and high-quality care delivery
Engage in process improvement efforts to enhance clinical efficiency and patient outcomes
Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree

License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
