Machinist - 2nd Shift Full Time

General / Definition: Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts. Ensure produced products meet precise specifications. Performs all tasks associated with general machinist work. Develops and maintains a positive professional relationship with all employees. Work environment is consistent with the manufacturing industry; project installation, maintenance activity, and grimy work conditions. Must treat people with respect, work ethically, with integrity, accept responsibility for own actions and uphold organization vision, values and objectives. • Analyze, lay-out and plan jobs; including obtaining diagrams, tools, parts and necessary supplies.
• Set up and operate machine a wide variety of conventional lathes, mills, presses and other manual machine shop equipment, to fabricate or repair parts for our operations.
• Operate surface grinders and Blanchard grinder.
• Operate machine shop equipment to achieve close tolerances, whether for creating new or modified mechanical parts, and devices.
• Interpret drawings and specifications to determine procedures to be used for repairs.
• Monitor and control feed rate and speed of cutting,
• Ensure workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to check tolerances, and to ensure the finished product meets the specifications called out in sketches, blueprints, work orders or samples.
• Takes field measurements as requested by the supervisor.
• Fill out forms and reports pertaining to inspection and repair of equipment
• Designs and constructs templates and fixtures.
• Builds machines, parts or equipment as required. Coordinates installation with shop and or maintenance personnel.
• Replace dull cutting tools.
• Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications.
• Operate cranes, lifts, and mobile equipment as required.
• Work cooperatively with other maintenance crews, management members, and vendors.
• Can be requests to act as temporary Lead Person to satisfy work load. *REQUIREMENTS:** Must have the knowledge, skills and ability to operate Conventional lathe/mills, drill press, surface grinders including Blanchard grinder.
• Able to utilize overhead cranes, jacks, wedges, cables, rope and chain blocks, etc for lifting heavy parts.
• Must possess knowledge of safe rigging and lifting practices.
• Able to make left-hand and right-hand threads.
• Must have understanding of machines to perform and necessary periodic maintenance and equipment repairs when necessary.
• Works closely with fabrication, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance departments.
• Ability to read and understand to act upon blue prints and sketches as well as verbal instructions.
• Ability to work efficiently and properly with minimal supervision.
• Must complete all assigned tasks/projects efficiently and on time.
• Able to be forklift certified.
• Will be required to work overtime as needed from 4-8 hours to include weekends. Must be available to work both first and second shift as needed. May be required to be on call.
• Must posses a valid Driver’s License and have a good driving record.
• Open and close shop as needed in support of operations.
• Help on cross training of staff.
• Help in cleaning and keeping the facility organized and presentable. Physical: * Will need to lift 10-75 pounds, occasionally to the height of 4 feet and/or carrying 10 feet.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions.
