Position SummaryThe AVP, Cyber Underwriter is responsible for driving profitable growth within the cyber insurance portfolio through disciplined underwriting, strong broker relationships, and effective risk selection. This role focuses on evaluating complex cyber risks, developing tailored coverage solutions, and expanding market presence within the retail distribution channel.Key ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting & Risk ManagementEvaluate, select, and price complex cyber risks in alignment with underwriting guidelines and authorityDevelop customized insurance solutions based on client exposures and risk profilesAnalyze submissions, financials, loss data, and cyber risk controlsEnsure pricing adequacy, coverage structure, and profitability targets are metBusiness Development & Broker ManagementBuild and maintain strong relationships with retail brokers and agency partnersIdentify new business opportunities and grow a profitable book of cyber businessManage the full underwriting lifecycle: submission, quote, negotiation, and bindingParticipate in RFPs and broker presentationsPortfolio Strategy & GrowthContribute to the execution of cyber underwriting strategy and portfolio managementMonitor and manage P&L within assigned underwriting authorityIdentify trends, emerging risks, and market opportunities in cyber insuranceSupport cross-selling opportunities across other specialty linesCollaboration & LeadershipPartner with internal teams including claims, actuarial, legal, and complianceEnsure adherence to underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and audit standardsMentor and support junior underwriting staff as neededInnovation & Process ImprovementLeverage data, analytics, and technology to improve underwriting decisionsSupport use of automation and AI tools to enhance efficiency and risk assessmentContinuously improve underwriting processes and best practicesQualificationsExperience7-12+ years of underwriting experience, with a focus on cyber, technology E&O, or specialty linesProven track record of building and managing a profitable book of businessExperience working with retail brokers in the NYC or Northeast market preferredEducationBachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or related field requiredAdvanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred but not requiredLicenses & CertificationsActive Property & Casualty (P&C) license requiredSurplus Lines license preferredIndustry designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or AU are a plusKey Skills & CompetenciesStrong underwriting and risk assessment skills in cyber insuranceDeep understanding of cyber exposures (data breaches, ransomware, network security)Negotiation and relationship management skillsAnalytical and financial modeling capabilitiesStrong communication and presentation skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environmentRyan Specialty is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
