Patient Transporter, Transportation Services

This position serves as the Transportation Assistant in the Overton Brooks Beneficiary Travel Program of the Veteran Transportation Services (VTS). The Beneficiary Travel Program provides transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for the purpose of examination, treatment, or care. This position serves as the primary contact to Veterans and vendors for patient transportation needs.

Communicates and interacts with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.
Will work with fellow Business Office staff, other administrative staff and clinical personnel as professionals and team members. This assistance would include in-person interactions with patients, staff and the public, as well as telephone and computer coverage.
Professional communication etiquette will be utilized in all modes of customer contact: in-person, telephone and email correspondence.
Responds to client requests and seeks resolution of family/patient/employee complaints; will forward unresolved complaints to supervisor, when appropriate. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, subject to change based upon facility needs.

For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 . The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; Performs a basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., spiritual; community; student; Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
