This job works in a collaborative model that includes psychiatrists, residents, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and staff who care for child/adolescent inpatient psychiatry patients. This job falls under the supervision of the Medical Director, and collaborating physicians and approved supervising staff physicians. Together, the team works with a multidisciplinary group to provide high quality treatment for our patients.
Ensures responsibility for the management of mental health and substance use conditions by obtaining patient history and performing assessments using interview, observation, and examination, formulating a diagnosis, developing and implementing treatment plans including prescribing medication, and coordinating with additional healthcare providers to provide outstanding care that promotes positive patient outcomes.

Required (NP): Master’s degree in Nursing
Required (PA): Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program
Work Experience
Required - 2 years’ related psychiatry working experience with children/adolescents
Preferred - 2 years’ related psychiatry working experience with children/adolescents in an inpatient setting
Required (NP): Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice
Current board certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) with Child/Adolescent Training
Current or eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing
Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Registration/Licensure
Required (PA): License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA Certified, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners
Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) specific to role.
Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
Reliable transportation including the ability to travel throughout and between facilities.
Competency documenting services using an electronic medical records system.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours (weekends/holidays/nights/call).
Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
Completes initial consultations, formulates an initial diagnosis and treatment plan for individuals with mental health disorders; Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, and other health professionals.
Develops working relationship with physicians and colleagues.
Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
