Physiatrist in Rehabilitation Medicine

Physiatrist Position
To provide physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) patient care; to provide PM&R leadership and to coordinate rehabilitation team care, to participate in administrative and quality assurance functions as requested.
Required Qualifications:
Member of active medical staff at Hospital for Special Care - required.
Board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation - required.
Physical Demands:
~ Job physically demands sitting, generally 2-4 hours per day, standing, with or without rests 6-8 hours a day and lifting to various degrees 1-10 lbs. frequently, 11-50 lbs occasionally and over 50lbs rarely.

Work Demands:
Job generally performed inside with room temperature environment at times with significant external stimuli, with frequent exposure to body fluids/blood borne pathogens.
Job also involves at times significant psychological stress due to the dealing with very medically complicated and tragically disabled patients.
Cognitive Demands:
Job involves significant amount of time problem solving regarding diagnosis and decision making for treatment plans for patients.
Also, extensive communication to patient and family along with treatment team and medical colleagues.
Essential Functions:
Act as rehabilitation attending physician in direct patient care in the inpatient and outpatient programs through providing initial consultation and clinical reviews.
Write orders for rehabilitation services.
Direct the Rehabilitation Team Review and Family Meetings.
Interact with medical attending physicians and referring physicians to ensure continuity of medical care.
Document rehabilitation progress. Provide active management direction for the person's rehabilitation program ensuring it is consistent with the person's predicted outcomes.
Participate in Physiatry Medicine rotating inpatient coverage as well as chronic care consultative coverage.
Plans/implement all interventions/interactions with an awareness of cultural, ethnic, religious, language, and age related/developmental needs of each patient.
Have regular, direct contact with the person, based on the rehabilitation and medical needs of the person served.
In coordination with the hospital's employee health services staff, provide medical treatment to hospital employees eligible for employee health services through the hospital's employee health services program.
Participate in medical staff and rehabilitation physician meetings, assist in policy formulation and plan activity to advance the Department of PM&R at Hospital for Special Care.
Participate in department peer review and quality assurance activities.
Represent PM&R on selected hospital wide committees.
Provide high quality education for medical students, residents and geriatric fellows in rehabilitation services.
