Required Skills Minimum of 2-year clinical nursing experience

CPR required ACLS, PALS, NRP TNCC per unit requirement (If required and not current must be obtained within 6 months of employment) Certification in Specialty preferred within 24 months (Remove?), demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities, demonstrated professional and ethical behavior, must be passionate about nursing and teamwork.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related healthcare field. Previous experience in a charge, lead, or supervisory nursing role. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, Critical Care, Registered Nurse (CCRN), or other specialty certification preferred.

Essential Functions Planning RN identifies the procedures, processes, and patient care to be accomplished during the work period, as well as the resources that will be required to safely carry out the work of the unit.

Awareness of legal aspects of nursing and applies knowledge when making staff assignments.

Prepares unit assignment with focus on patient acuity and competencies of scheduled staff while attempting continuity in patient assignments.

Completes verbal and written report for oncoming shift by gathering information from off going nurses to identify patient care issues.

Prepares for and is familiar with the downtime process, forms and location of resources and ensures implementation of processes.

Ensures quality control checks on equipment and crash carts as well as environmental rounds to ensure safety.

Promotes an environment that focuses on staff well-being and patient safety.

Maintains open, clear and consistent communication to staff promoting positivity before, during and after shift.

Maintains annual competencies and necessary unit specific needs/procedures to provide patient care when needed

Coordinating RN distributes the work of the unit in a manner that makes the best use of available resources, both personnel and material, and which consider the knowledge, skills and abilities of those persons who will be integral to the patient care process. The charge nurse provides ongoing coordination of work and resources as necessary to meet changing requirements in the work environment.

Delegates unit and patient responsibilities to nursing staff members according to each staff member’s education, training and availability in accordance with the Ohio Administrative Code.

Maintains focus on staffing needs throughout shift as census changes.

Facilitates patient transfers to and from other units and hospitals in coordination with the NOCC

Acts as a resource to staff on duty in areas of documentation, policies, procedures, safety and unit specific needs to ensure the highest quality of care is provided.

Collaborates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team

Supports quality improvement initiatives through coaching and monitoring staff.

Coordination and delivery of care in emergency code situations or disaster situation per protocol including staff management, timely reporting, required documentation, Chain of Command.

Promotes, facilitates, and informs team members on new practices changes or regulatory requirements, and leadership announcements and expectations.

Identifies ways to provide safe and appropriate culture-specific care per patient/family stipulation.

Evaluating RN evaluates individual and collective outcomes of the patient care provided during their shift, compares patient care delivery to accepted standards, adjusts assignment of resources as necessary, and reports changing needs and outcomes to the health care staff.

Effectively communicates with staffing representative, house supervisor, manager or designee regarding personnel, patient and safety issues.

Assures consistent quality nursing practices

Initiates follow-up with all patient/family concerns promptly using service recovery and notifying manager or designee of major concerns.

Ensures the appropriate incident reports and physician notifications are completed in a timely manner after an incident.

Evaluating and assuring critical labs are documented appropriately

Evaluates quality improvement plans and shares feedback with team

Evaluates staff to ensure compliance with quality measures including KH identified core measures.

Provides in-the-moment coaching to staff when necessary using non-judgmental, positive feedback.
