HR Generalist II - Houston (Tax Division 2601196)
Overview TxDOT seeks a dynamic HR Generalist to foster a positive workplace culture and support employees and leadership across the organization.
Responsibilities Support employee benefits administration and field office needs.
Lead onboarding and orientation for new hires.
Manage leave processes, including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requests.
Assist with employee relations and provide guidance on sensitive topics such as substance abuse and discipline.
Interpret HR policies, contribute to talent development, and facilitate training initiatives.
Participate in hiring activities: coordinate job openings, recruit locally, screen applications, and process new hires.
Maintain HR data using systems such as PeopleSoft.
Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of human resources‑related experience (full‑time or equivalent part‑time).
Relevant graduate level education may be substituted at a 1:1 year per year ratio.
Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications HR certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM‑CP/SHRM‑SCP).
Experience in employee engagement.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Knowledge of Human resources management policies and practices.
Federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines governing HR.
Applicable HR information and management systems.
Skills Public relations and relationship management.
Meeting deadlines and time management.
Administrative support, including writing, editing, and report preparation.
Prioritizing and organizing work assignments.
Maintaining confidential records and reports.
Proficiency with computer applications and HR systems.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 lbs and occasional carrying of files or small tools.
Sitting prolonged periods of time.
Repetitive motion of wrists and hands.
Visual tasks involving computer screens and extensive reading.
