Summary Primary responsibility will be providing patient care to the patients of the Emergency Departments. Performs entire patient care continuum to all patients who present to the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities Perform initial assessments, appropriate ordering/interpretation of diagnostics, exercising treatment algorithms (including abscesses, laceration repair, fracture stabilization and splinting)
Arrange appropriate disposition (including admissions) for patients ranging from newborn to geriatric
Utilize physician resources appropriately and demonstrate high confidence in treating patients
Provide Primary Patient Care for high acuity patients (ESI 1-5) including procedures such as running codes, conscious sedation, airway management (LMA/intubation/chricothyrotomy), ultrasound guided central lines, joint aspiration, lumbar puncture, joint and fracture reductions
Review labs/x-ray reports, medication refills, patient referrals, education, health maintenance and symptom management in acute and chronic disease for all age groups
Serve as educator for staff RNs, ER Techs, APC students and residents
Participate in management/administrative roles (meetings, schedules, committees, screening/evaluation of prospective employees, staffing, management, developing clinical policies)
Participate in data collection and quality management activities and use data for professional practice improvement
Engage in improvement projects, organizational initiatives, team building, section meetings and semi-annual provider reviews
Maintain patient medical records per hospital and regulatory agency requirements
Maintain monthly call shift, continuing education (ACLS, PALS) and communication with hospital and medical staff
Meet all documentation requirements including EMTALA compliance
Perform other functions as required
Qualifications M.D./D.O. in Emergency Medicine
New Mexico State M.D. License required
Three to five years experience in emergency care and/or residency trained in emergency medicine to care for patients of all ages
Ability to perform procedures listed above and demonstrate high confidence
Coachable with willingness to assimilate feedback and improve documentation and coding for billing
