This is a unique opportunity to play a key leadership role in supporting EPIC's continued growth and mission impact while building scalable financial systems and processes for the future.About the PositionThe Director of Finance & Compliance serves as EPIC's primary internal finance leader, responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of the organization's finance and compliance functions. This role ensures sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and the financial systems, business processes, and internal controls needed to support EPIC's mission and continued growth.About the JobFinancial Leadership & OperationsLead EPIC's day-to-day financial operations, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting, sound accounting practices, and effective internal controls.Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration, banking relationships, cash management, and earned revenue billing, ensuring effective financial controls, appropriate approvals, and timely processing.Review and approve vendor invoices, expense reimbursements, general ledger coding, financial transactions, and related documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to organizational policies and internal controls.Oversee customer invoicing, revenue collection, and grant expenditure tracking while partnering with program staff and external funders to ensure timely billing, reimbursement requests, and compliance with grant requirements.Monitor organizational cash flow, financial performance, and liquidity, identifying trends, recommending corrective actions, and coordinating banking activity and cash transfers as needed.Lead the annual audit process by preparing audit schedules, coordinating the Prepared by Client (PBC) process, gathering supporting documentation, managing auditor communications, and ensuring timely completion of audit deliverables. Coordinate preparation and review of IRS Form 990 and other required financial filings in partnership with the Controller and fractional CFO.Ensure timely, accurate, and decision-ready financial reporting for leadership, funders, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors.Financial Planning, Compliance & AdministrationLead the annual budgeting process and partner with organizational leaders on forecasting, financial planning, and resource allocation.Prepare financial analyses, dashboards, and reports that support organizational planning and strategic decision-making.Ensure timely and accurate grant financial reporting and compliance with grant requirements.Oversee vendor agreements, insurance programs, organizational filings, and related legal and broker relationships, ensuring timely execution, compliance, and effective risk management.Lead the development and administration of contracts with relevant department leaders, coordinating with legal counsel, advisory partners, and contracting partners as needed.Review and strengthen financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and governance practices that support accountability and effective risk management.Financial Systems & Process ImprovementServe as the primary owner of EPIC's financial systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and effective utilization.Develop and maintain finance procedures that promote consistency, operational excellence, and organizational continuity.Partner with the Operations team on technology initiatives that strengthen financial processes and support organizational growth.Leadership & CollaborationPartner closely with organizational leadership, including the Vice President of Operations, President & CEO, fractional CFO, contract Controller, and department leaders to support financial strategy and organizational planning.Build strong cross-functional relationships by providing responsive support, sound financial guidance, and exceptional internal customer service.Lead finance-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness.About YouYou are a collaborative and solutions-oriented finance leader with a demonstrated ability to provide strong financial stewardship, strengthen organizational systems, and support sustainable growth. You bring a blend of financial expertise, operational leadership, systems thinking, and sound judgment, along with the ability to build trusted partnerships, communicate complex financial information clearly, and implement scalable solutions that enhance organizational performance and mission impact.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, or financial operations, including demonstrated ownership of core finance functions.Demonstrated experience leading accounting operations, annual budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, audits, compliance, grant financial management, and internal controls.Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and financial compliance requirements.Experience administering financial systems and using technology to improve operational efficiency.Excellent analytical, organizational, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for executive leadership and Boards.Experience partnering with outsourced finance professionals, auditors, legal counsel, and financial institutions.Experience implementing or optimizing financial systems and business processes.com, Martus, Gusto, or comparable financial systems; familiarity with Microsoft 365, HubSpot, and Asana.Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, genetics, veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics.
