Catholic Charities is the official domestic relief agency of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon.

The Development Director leads and manages the strategic direction of the Development team, and fundraising strategies to advance the Agency's mission. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Team, the Development Director will grow revenue by actively working a diversified approach to fundraising that balances major gifts, contributions, bequests, grants and clients. Responsible for working an active portfolio and overseeing the work of the Development team, this senior role ensures quality, sustained engagement between donors, funding partners and Catholic Charities of Oregon. The Development Director is an integral member of the Executive Team.
Serve as a thought-partner and strategist in achieving sustainably and growth with a multi-year development strategy that will grow CCO's financial resources and community visibility.
Through partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, design and execute a comprehensive development plan aligned with organizational goals and focused on major donors, grants, events, bequests, and contributions .
Manage a portfolio of individual major donors and prospects, developing tailored, individual strategies to enhance relationships that will lead to deepened connections and increased giving to support Catholic Charities' mission
In partnership with the CEO and Major Gifts Officer, establish and oversee a major gifts program that balances a focus on stewarding existing and cultivating new donors, achieves stronger relationships, new and sustained giving, and actively manages all aspects of the individual giving cycle.
Lead the annual creation of the Development department budget to align with the overall objectives of the agency. Track and report on budget to actuals to CEO and Finance Director, including grants, gifts, events and pledges. Work closely with the Finance Director to achieve alignment in tracking Development department generated revenue to the organization.
Work in close partnership with the CEO, demonstrating understanding of their executive role in securing major gifts.
Oversee, in close partnership with the Development Associate, event strategy and provide strategic oversight of fundraising events to maximize revenue and donor engagement. Ensure events align with broader fundraising and relationship-building goals.
Utilize research on donors and local industry trends with a goal of identifying strategies for increasing support and uncovering viable prospects (e.g. Prepare data for the CEO and the Board Strategic Growth Committee.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of donor data in the donor CRM, Donor Perfect, with support from the Development Associate for gift processing and acknowledgements. Use donor data to inform strategies and track key performance indicators.
Lead, coach, and inspire the Development team to meet and surpass revenue and engagement goals. Appropriately manage the team through conducting regular one-on-one check-ins and performance reviews for all assigned staff, establish work plans and priorities, provide constructive feedback, and take corrective action as needed.
Identify, provide and track professional development and training needs for all assigned staff.
Adherence to Catholic Charities policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 7 years previous experience with building development strategies, grants, events and major gift and/or planned giving fundraising experience required.
Minimum 10 years progressive nonprofit fundraising and leadership experience preferred.
Strong leadership skills with minimum 3 years progressive experience supervising staff and building collaborative teams.
History of continued success in major gifts, donor stewardship, events and grants.
Proven track record of personally soliciting and securing individual six-figure gifts ($100,000+) from high-net-worth individuals. Experience managing a development program within an organization with a $7-10M+ budget preferred.
Familiarity with Portland philanthropic community and recent individual funding trends and motivations is strongly desired.
Commitment to Catholic Charities mission to work in partnership with vulnerable populations to achieve lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.
Proficiency with donor databases/CRM systems and commonly used workplace technologies, including Microsoft Office and SharePoint. Demonstrated ability to leverage emerging technologies to enhance productivity, accuracy, and overall work quality.
Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.
