Immigration Law Attorneys

Building One Community (B1C) is a Stamford, Connecticut-based nonprofit supporting the successful integration of immigrants and their families. We provide free services that educate, employ, empower and engage immigrants and the broader community. Our programs include English Language classes, Family and Individual Support Services, Academic Enrichment Programs, Immigration Legal Services, and Workforce Development programs.

B1C is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Immigration Pro Bono Supervising Attorney to join our Immigration Legal Services (ILS) team. This is a unique opportunity to lead and grow B1C's pro bono representation program at a critical moment, as demand for immigration legal services across Fairfield County continues to rise. The Pro Bono Supervising Attorney will manage and mentor a team of volunteer attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives, provide direct legal representation on complex immigration matters, and help build the infrastructure needed to expand B1C's capacity to serve more clients with excellence.

This role reports to the Director of Immigration Legal Services and works closely with staff attorneys, paralegals, and the broader ILS team.

Recruit, train, and manage a growing cohort of pro bono attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives
Develop and deliver immigration law trainings and presentations for pro bono attorneys, DOJ accredited representatives, and law students
Establish clear workflows, expectations, and quality standards for pro bono case management
Participate in interviewing and hiring processes for pro bono attorneys and staff

Direct Legal Representation
Represent clients in a range of immigration matters, including removal defense, asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), U visas, family-based petitions, and adjustments of status
Mentor pro bono attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives on complex immigration cases, providing legal advice and trauma-informed representation support

Supervision & Mentorship
Supervise and provide substantive legal guidance to pro bono attorneys, and DOJ accredited representatives, law students
Collaborate with the ILS Director to assess client eligibility for immigration relief and determine representation strategies
Review and quality-check legal work product prepared by supervised staff and volunteers

Conduct and supervise individual legal consultations during designated consultation days, including B1C's Attorney of the Day program
Participate in and help lead large-scale legal clinics, providing legal analysis, screening, and advice to community members
Community & Organizational Engagement
Represent B1C in coalitions, partnerships, and community settings relevant to immigration legal services
Contribute to grant reporting, impact tracking, and programmatic planning as needed
Stay current on changes in immigration law and policy and share updates with the ILS team

D. from an accredited law school and admission to the Connecticut Bar (or ability to waive in)
Minimum 6-8 years' experience in immigration law, including direct representation in removal defense, asylum, and or family-based cases
Experience supervising attorneys, paralegals, or law students
Strong knowledge of immigration law and procedure before USCIS and EOIR
Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and serving low-income and vulnerable populations
Fluency or proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole
Experience with trauma-informed legal practice
Familiarity with SIJS, U visa, and/or children's immigration cases
Connections to the legal community in Connecticut or the Greater New York area
