Buyer - Full time - Supply Chain Purchasing

Works with suppliers regarding requirements planning. Releases and expedites purchase orders and provides follow-up and material planning. Executes supply chain functions encompassing external purchasing or subcontracting in support of manufacturing, including organizing prints and specifications, ordering materials and performing inventory adjustments.

Negotiate price, payment terms and communicate on-time delivery expectations with current and potential suppliers;

Work with suppliers, engineers and operations to resolve quality and delivery issues;

Coordinate engineering changes as they impact purchased material;

Provide purchasing support for production;

Manage temporary outsourcing where appropriate;

Ensure maintenance of proper inventory levels;

Adhere to company purchasing and accounting policies and procedures;

Manage assigned purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders to satisfy the operational objectives;

Monitor supplier performance with the ability to intervene as appropriate to correct unacceptable service levels;

Ability to make decisions and/or recommendations that may have a substantial impact on operations;

Maintain MRP material master settings in accordance with company guidelines;

Respond to changing market price and product availability trends that could impact operational targets;

Ability to interact with multiple work groups and internal customers;

Participate and/or lead special projects as required.

Education / Training

Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business or other related field preferred but not required. Minimum of five years’ experience in an industrial purchasing position;

Direct material purchasing experience in a heavy manufacturing environment;

Proficient Microsoft Office skills and strong Microsoft Office Excel skills;

Knowledge of commodities and purchased material within a heavy manufacturing environment;

Rail product knowledge;

Knowledge of Association of American Railroad specifications;
