Description
Assist with the supervision and teaching of children ages six weeks to ten years of age, supporting daily care routines and implementing age‑appropriate lessons and activities aligned with best practices, state licensing rules, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, supervision, and implementation of age‑appropriate activities aligned with Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and NAEYC accreditation standards for the afternoon program during the academic school year and full day during the summer months.
Model ethical and appropriate best practices as an early childhood professional for children, families, and ECE students.
Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and mandated state licensing regulations in the child care environment, including proper storage of materials and sanitation of classroom equipment.
Document, initiate, and maintain communication with parents about child progress as directed by the Lead Teacher.
Stay current with professional and technical knowledge in the field through continuing education and activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of theories and principles of childhood growth and development from birth through ten years of age.
Knowledge of child behavior.
Knowledge of first aid, safety, sanitation, and nutrition pertaining to early childhood education standards of best practice.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, and staff.
Ability to plan and organize own work and creative activities for children.
Effective interpersonal communication skills in speaking, writing, and listening.
Education and Experience Requirements
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or current enrollment in WCTC’s Early Childhood Education program.
Eighty (80) hours of training in Early Childhood Education, a diploma from a one‑year Child Care Services Program, a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or two (2) years of college credit with three (3) credits in Early Childhood Education.
Eighty (80) full days or 120 half‑days of experience in direct child care as a teacher or volunteer in a licensed child care center, kindergarten, or certification as a nursery school teacher through the Department of Public Instruction.
For those working with children two (2) years of age and younger, experience with infants and toddlers is preferred; a minimum of 10 hours of infant and toddler care training is required within six (6) months of hire.
Supplemental Information
The Assistant Teacher position supports the Child Development Center and may start on or before August 3rd. It will be assigned to the infant classroom, working with children aged 6 weeks to 18 months approximately.
Schedule
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
